I already have a blog where I keep all my creative work. My life is changing a lot at the moment and there are lots of issues, beliefs and such that I find myself musing for hours over. I've decided that it might be a good idea to write my musings down somewhere. I have no idea where this will go so it will be an adventure, an exciting one I hope.

Thou shalt not kill

"You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13)

Human life is precious. God made us in His own image for the purpose of creating in us His own character. For that reason He is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). Jesus also explained "God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:17).

Sadly, in this world, human life is so often treated with indifference. We try to sort out and settle our differences with war with results in mass killings. Thieves steal not only possessions but their victim's lives also. Too many people view an unwanted pregnancy as simply an inconvenience of their sexual activity, to the point that millions of unborn babies are aborted every single year. This all smacks in the face our Creator, who promises the greatest gift possible - eternal life with Him.

News programmes, typically, are occupied with accounts of murders that have taken place. Many of these killings are committed by family members or former friends and associates.

Random killings from gang and street violence add to a growing societal fear. Around the world uncountable thousands become victims of mass murder in the name of politics, either through terrorism or warfare. Probably every person on this earth has been touched by murder in some way.

In supposedly advanced societies, TV and films force feed us with killings. Violence is so woven into society that we glamorise it in books, films, music and TV shows.

It's ironic that in spite of society's fascination with murder, we pass strict laws against it.
