"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ." Ephesians 4:15
Growing up spiritually is not always easy. We have to endure many 'growing pains' as followers of Christ. We are growing in a world that we are not 'of' and that brings many potential battles such as bullying and persecution. Due to the challenging times, we are often tempted to give up and lead a life that is more of this world. At this point, we need to look deeper and realise and acknowledge all the progress that we have made so far in our lives. Then look at all the good we can do in the future due to more progress.
Maybe you are struggling with yourself right now. You know that you need to change and that you desire so badly to be like Jesus. But you perhaps feel like you are making absolutely no progress. The first thing you must realise is that you are making progress. Every single day small changes are happening within you.
It may help if you take a little time out of your daily routine. Use this time to think about where you were when you first accepted Christ into your heart. Listen to the Holy Spirit instead of listening to the devil, who is constantly trying to sabotage. The way to listen to the Holy Spirit is by following your heart and not your head or your feelings. If you pay close attention you will begin to easily decipher the difference and learn to live beyond your feelings.
Refuse to compare yourself to other people. Everyone is different and has a variety of strengths and weaknesses. Comparing yourself to others is inviting the devil in to point out all your negative traits which you will then focus on and ignore God. Just be patient with yourself. Keep pressing on and believe that there are positive changes happening within you every single day.
Don't give up on growing up!
