Matthew 4:1 - "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil."
We know from what the Bible teaches us that human beings are involved in a spiritual battle. We also know that at times the war is raging. You are not excluded from this spiritual battle, in fact you are part of it. Faith puts you right in the centre of it. You need to recognise that you are battling for your soul and you need to arm yourself with weapons that will resist spiritual attack or you will be defeated. Ephesians 6 tells you to put on your armour of God, which comprises of the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. Going into battle with all this armour in place is a sure sign of victory, even before the battle has begun.
Ephesians 6:12 - "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
1 John 2:16 - "For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does, comes not from the Father but from the world."
The devil is very much alive and active in this world. His legions of demons are always out prowling, on the attack. There is a battle that rages in the spiritual realm, a battle that you cannot see but you will experience it when you seek to serve God. In order to stand strong and resist temptation, you need God's power, not your own. Because you do not always know or understand that the devil is threatening you, you need God's power to give you the strength to face an unknown enemy. Take peace from the fact that God has already won the battle over death and has the power to save you in this battle too.
