I already have a blog where I keep all my creative work. My life is changing a lot at the moment and there are lots of issues, beliefs and such that I find myself musing for hours over. I've decided that it might be a good idea to write my musings down somewhere. I have no idea where this will go so it will be an adventure, an exciting one I hope.

Musings on the Bible

Musings on the Bible

Joshua 1:8 - "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."

How often should you read the Bible? The straight answer is laid out in Joshua - every day. God intended the Bible to be our Manual for Life. The purpose of a manual is that you frequently refer to it to gain knowledge and seek advice from within it. In order to make the most of God's Word it would be wise to set aside time each day to study, read and meditate on it.

Isaiah 40:8 - "The grass withers and flowers fall, but the word of our God stands for ever." - I believe that a thought that may come into the minds of either non-Christians or young Christians is the question of the relevance in modern life of such an old book as the Bible. The Bible is the living Word of God that is relevant to everyone in every time period. People change over centuries but Man's basic human needs remain unchanged: love, acceptance, purpose and fulfilment. The Bible addresses all these needs in a way that is contemporary in all time periods.

Psalm 119:30 - "The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." - You may find yourself questioning what you will gain from reading the Bible. The Bible is the most powerful and meaningful book you will ever read. Reading it helps you find the keys to living and to experience insight, wisdom, joy and knowledge. You will find that whilst you are reading the Bible that thoughts are sparked off in your mind from the Holy Spirit.

John 8:32 - "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" - Reading the Bible will tell you how to be set free from sin. It will also teach you how to recognise false doctrine when you hear it, of which there is much of in this world.

Psalm 119:24 - "Your statutes are my delight; they are my counsellors" - Regular reading of the Bible helps you keep a good and healthy attitude towards God and others. It will give you wise advice and counsel about the problems that you may have. We all need someone or something to turn to when times get tough - turn to the living Word of God! It will guide you in your daily living offering encouragement and comfort whilst helping you stay close to God.

Go on, turn to a page, any page and get reading!!!
