I already have a blog where I keep all my creative work. My life is changing a lot at the moment and there are lots of issues, beliefs and such that I find myself musing for hours over. I've decided that it might be a good idea to write my musings down somewhere. I have no idea where this will go so it will be an adventure, an exciting one I hope.

The Call of God

Psalm 119:105 - "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path."

Getting to know God better by reading his Word is the first step in knowing your calling. As God communicates with you through the Bible, he will lead the way. He will show you what to do and where he wants you to go.

Daniel 1:17 - "To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds."

God has given every one of us special skills and abilities. These provide us with the biggest clue as to what God wants you to do with your life. When he calls you to do something unique and special for him, he will almost always allow you to use your God-given gifts to get the job done. Once you know your gifts you need to develop and start using them. In God's own time, you will see what he wants you to do.

Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will."

When you allow God to transform you by the power of his Holy Spirit, he will literally begin to change the way you think so that you know what he wants you to do. When he gives you a specific calling, it will fill your thoughts and energies so that you have a longing to pursue it wholeheartedly. God may call you to do a certain job or to execute a very specific task. When this happens, he will ensure that you know what it is. This will cause you to feel a very strong sense of leading from him. It's down to you to respond and walk through the door of opportunity that he has opened.

1 Corinthians 12:4 - "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit."

1 Corinthians 12:7 - "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good."

God gives each one of us a spiritual gift. Your gifts can be used to help and encourage others and to bring glory to God's name. These specific spiritual gifts will help you fulfil the purpose for which he made you. However, the call to follow Jesus does not necessarily mean a call to a specific job Christian ministry. Sometimes your call may simply be to obey God wherever you are right now.

Ecclesiastes 11:9 - "Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement."

God gives you the freedom to follow many different paths over the course of your life and pursue many different activities. However, remember that you will have to answer to God for everything you do. Not everything you do in life is a call from God, BUT - everything you do is accountable to God.
