I already have a blog where I keep all my creative work. My life is changing a lot at the moment and there are lots of issues, beliefs and such that I find myself musing for hours over. I've decided that it might be a good idea to write my musings down somewhere. I have no idea where this will go so it will be an adventure, an exciting one I hope.

Why doesn't everyone get healed?

Malachi 4:2 - "But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like the calves released from the stall."

Isaiah 53:4 - "Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted."

Taking both scriptures into account and the fact that there are at least another sixty references in the bible of Jesus healing all who came to Him, the truth is that Jesus does heal all who come to Him. The undeniable truth is that healing is a part of Christ's atonement, and the fact that Jesus said He did exactly what He saw His Father do (John 5:19) leads to the clear conclusion that God wants you to be well.

Acts 10:38 - "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him."

The Apostle Peter points out that Jesus healed all. He also tells how the sick were oppressed of the devil, not of God. Sickness is not from God; it is from the devil. But healing is not from the devil; it is from God.

There are various theories as to why people get sick and why some get healed and some do not and I'm interested in exploring this a little: Freedom from sickness and disease has been provided just like freedom from sin. Christians still sin and they get sick. However, this is not God's will.

This leads onto another element which causes many people to reject the truth that it is always God's will to heal. It is often suggested that sickness is only caused by sin in a person's life. It's a reason, but only one reason of many.

John 5:14 - "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

This scripture tells us what Jesus said to the man he healed at the Pool of Bethesda. Sin can be one reason for sickness, but God is not sending sickness as a punishment. Sin allows the devil to release his death in us. However, not all sickness is a direct result of sin. Due to miscomprehension of this, many people believe that it is not always God's will to heal. They instead believe that all sickness is a result of sin, therefore all sick people are bad or evil in some way.

Exodus 15:26 - "If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you."

Regardless of the cause of sickness, there is always something we can do about it. We can believe God, put our trust in Him and He will heal all our diseases.

There are however three main reasons why certain people are not healed:

1. Our own personal sin. God doesn't reach out and heal those who sin and who show no repentance. We reap what we sow basically in his eyes; an alcoholic will get liver disease, drug abusers will get brain damage and so on. God is not punishing them, they do it to themselves and until they ask the Lord for help then nothing can change.

2. . John 10:10 - "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." - The devil is the enemy that fights us with all types of problems. We make his job easier when we yield to him through sin. At other times, the devil's opposition doesn't come because of sin or ignorance but because we are in a war in which he comes to steal, kill and destroy.

3. Many of our problems are just the natural results of living in a fallen world. A wound (metaphorical or not) gets infected, not because of your personal sin, but also not because of the devil. It is simply the result of the corruption that has entered the world through sin.

The point isn't that all sickness is a result of sin, but that faith in God's healing atonement is what overcomes sickness. Today, the carnal church is sending the sick to doctors, the poor to bankers and so on. But it is God's will that the church meets these needs, however, because it isn't then the general population do not see the relevance of the church in everyday life.

Romans 12:3 - "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you."

Every true believer in Jesus was given 'the measure of faith' That faith is more than plenty to accomplish whatever you need or want to. The problem here is that you may also have an amount of unbelief that negates the force of your faith.

Many Christians try to increase their faith but do little or nothing to decrease their disbelief. Unbelief comes the same way faith comes. Faith comes by hearing, and unbelief also comes from hearing. Unbelief is actually belief. It's just belief in the wrong direction. When we focus our attention on God through His promises, faith rises. When we focus our attention on this world and its deceptions, unbelief rises.

To decrease our unbelief we have to reduce the influence of the world on our thoughts. However, thoughts can't just be cast out, they have to be replaced. Until this is done, our faith and our unbelief continue to battle. The result being that we are not delivered and we are not healed.
