I already have a blog where I keep all my creative work. My life is changing a lot at the moment and there are lots of issues, beliefs and such that I find myself musing for hours over. I've decided that it might be a good idea to write my musings down somewhere. I have no idea where this will go so it will be an adventure, an exciting one I hope.

Sickness is a curse

Deuteronomy 28 is a very telling chapter in the Bible. It constantly refers to sickness as being a curse, not a blessing. This confirms that God wants you to be well by blessing you with good health.

In the first fourteen verses of Deuteronomy 28 we see mentions of many blessings. You will be blessed:

-in your city and in the country

-with motherhood

-in crop harvests

-when you are born and when you die

-by the enemies being defeated

-with abundant prosperity for your children

Later on in the chapter, Deuteronomy 15-68, we are shown the flip side. Many curses are mentioned, some of which are:

-you will be cursed in the city and the country

-your hopes of motherhood and your children will be cursed

-you will be cursed when you are born and when you die

-the Lord will send curses, confusion and rebuke on all you do

-you will be plagued with incurable diseases and tumours

-the land will suffer against heat and drought

-you will lose against your enemies

-your life will cease to contain anything precious

There are multiple mentions of sickness listed, more than I have mentioned.

Deuteronomy 28:61 - "every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law is a curse that would come upon the Israelites because of their disobedience."

Galatians 3:13 - "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: 'Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree'."

Therefore, sickness and disease will never be used by God to bless us. In the Old Testament it was used as a curse, but Christ redeemed us. It is never, ever God who brings sickness on people - it is the devil.

However, it is very common still today to hear people declaring how God has either allowed or caused their sickness. Once they accept that as being truth, they believe they must submit to the sickness they have and allow God to teach them or they are in rebellion. This is not a state that any Christians want to be in, revelling towards God, so, many passively submit to the sickness. However, what they don't understand is that they are in fact submitting to the devil who is the creator of sickness. Acts 10:38. This is one of the devil's biggest deceptions. If he can get Christians to believe that his actions are actually God's own actions then they will not resist him. The devil floats around acting as an angel of light and is embraced instead of resisted. 2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light."

James 4:7 - "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." 'Resist' means to actively fight against something. You can't fight against the devil if you think he is one of God's angels. God isn't using the devil or the sickness he brings to deliver His messages. Satan comes only to kill, steal and destroy. However, Jesus came to give us abundant life. John 10:10 "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

So in essence, the devil comes to make us sick and Jesus comes to heal us. Sickness is a curse, and Jesus died to set us free from the curse. The devil is evil but our God is a good God. He is the almighty, awesome, healing God that we worship.
